PANELIST MAIN STAGE – WHAT'S AROUND THE NEXT BEND? TECHNOLOGY VS PRIVACY
Muneeb Imran, invited as the one of panelists on the Main Stage Discussion of the GISEC Dubai 2023.
The discussion centered around how the modern-day world will address the challenges of upholding privacy where the technological growth is happening at a rapid pace.
Muneeb Imran highlighted that the technology will enable humans to overcome their limitations associated with physiological aspects or other cognitive abilities, which will be supplemented by interfacing human minds and bodies with the technology and hence enhancing the capabilities of a human.
While these technological advances will drastically shift our value propositions around human life, they also come with immense risks and challenges specially associated with human privacy.
WORKSHOP – PREVENTING PRIVACY BY DESIGN FROM BECOMING A PRIVILEGE
Muneeb Imran Shaikh conducted a detailed workshop during GISEC Dubai 2023 about the human cognitive biases that lead us to compromise upon our privacy.
The workshop was centered around the following ideas:
- Cognitive Biases that affect our ability to identify Privacy risks.
- Challenges with Privacy by Design and Default that can affect organizations
- How to adopt Privacy micro strategies to embed privacy into products and services.
PANELIST – DATA PRIVACY LANDSCAPE & EMERGING LAWS TO PROTECT DATA
Muneeb Imran Shaikh, invited as the one of panelists on the Nation Stage Discussion of the GISEC Dubai 2022.
The discussion centered around the emergence of privacy laws in the middle east and what opportunities and challenges do they entail.
Muneeb Imran highlighted that laws are the essentially the tool to encapsulate the ethos and aspirations of the society. With the emergence of Privacy laws in the middle eastern region, there is an increased opportunity that privacy of individuals will be given its due importance along with other societal aspirations.
SPEAKER AT NATION STAGE EMBRACING DESIGN THINKING TO SUPPORT BUSINESS THROUGH CYBERSECURITY
Muneeb Imran Shaikh, conducted a session on the Nation Stage of the GISEC Dubai 2022 on the Importance of Design thinking in Cybersecurity.
He highlighted the business has existed even before the terms like cybersecurity were coined therefore the central focus of the cybersecurity should be the enablement of business to achieve its strategic objectives.
When security acts as an enabler in the attainment of strategic objectives, it begins to demonstrate and inspire trust, reliability and accountability through its governance and risk management. This allows security to earn credibility, a good reputation and trust among the senior executive management, and therefore whenever security raises a flag to highlight a concern, it is given its due value.
UPHOLDING PRIVACY IN THE AGE OF DATA
Muneeb Imran Shaikh, conducted a session on Upholding Privacy in the Age of Data at Pakistan Embassy Riyadh in November 2023.
He highlighted the emerging challenges vis-à-vis personal data protection in the increased datafication of societies. The session also shed light on the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law and how it can be instrumental in mitigating the privacy harms and risks to the individuals.
IAPP KNOWLEDGE NET RIYADH CHAPTER 2024
Muneeb Imran was among the distinguished panelists of the IAPP (International Association of Privacy Professionals) KnowledgeNet Riyadh Chapter Session.
The Riyadh chapter held the session to celebrate the Enforcement of KSA Personal Data Protection Law. Over 130 privacy professionals from across the Kingdom gathered together to mark the PDPL enforcement date.
The panelists shed light on the following points:
1.Importance of KSA PDPL to you and your organization.
2.What have been the major challenges and how we can effectively govern privacy function.
3.How can the organization begin and continue their journey to comply with the requirements of Saudi Personal Data Protection Law.
The event was wonderfully arranged by the Riyadh Chapter Chairs including Basmah Alsubaie, Caroline Watson, and Osama El-Masry with participation from various distinguished individuals like Hamza Saghir Responsible AI & Data Privacy Expert , Emna KRICHENE, Privacy Policy Manager, Meta, Khaled Alebi and Tahir Latif (IAPP Advisory Board Member)
DIFC – RISK GRC CONFERENCE DUBAI 2024
Muneeb Imran Shaikh participated in the DIFC Risk Conference focused on GRC, Privacy, Security & Responsible AI.
The discussion in the panel centered around how Human progress has long thrived on innovation, yet value creation in today’s digital world demands a balance with societal priorities like privacy, security, and trust.
It was discussed how emerging regulations in KSA and the wider region influence value creation, consumer behavior, and business models.
